Pari vuotta sitten pukki toi jouluksi Lonely Planetin The Travel Book: Journey Through Every Country in the World -kirjan. Kirjassa on esitelty jokainen maa tällä pallolla. Matava opus! Kuvat ovat kirjassa ehkä kaikkein parasta. Niin, ja fiilis "Tonne pitää päästä" sivu toisensa jälkeen.

Junaan Helsingistä, suunnaksi joku Venäjän kaupunki, josta pääsee hyppäämään kaakkoon menevään junaan. Tsädäm, tästä alkaa suuri Stan-kierros: Kazahkstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tadsikistan, Kirgistan. Afganistanin ja Pakistanin ehkä skippaisin toistaiseksi.
Miksi?
Kazahkstan: Market hopping in Almaty, the mercantile city that gathers Chinese, Uzbek, Russian and Turkish traders. Super rare Snow Leopards. Trekking the mighty Altay mountains, border to Russia and China. Uzbekistan: It was here that the Ancient Silk Road traversed. Visiting ancient city of Khiva, that looks like a giant sand castle. fishing boats left high and dry by the shrinking Aral Sea. Turkmenistan: Visiting Karakum desert. Staying in a traditional yurt. Still two generations ago the population was almost complitely nomads. Tadsikistan: The country is forged together by Soviet nation building and shared pride in a persian cultural heritage that is claimed to be the oldest in the Silk Road region. Kirgistan: Nomadic traditions, laid back hospitality and mere´s milk. Soaking in the thermal springs and spas of lake Issyk-Kul and wildlife watching for big cats, ibex, bear and wild boar.
